V2L on Your BYD: How the Vehicle-to-Load Function Uses the Charging Port, and Safe Use Basics

By BYDPH.org editorial · version 1 · Nov 02, 2026

V2L (vehicle-to-load) lets some BYDs power everyday devices from the car battery. This guide explains the idea, which current models advertise it, and sensible safety basics, with per-model limits left to the owner manual.

Vehicle-to-load, or V2L, turns a compatible EV into a power source. Instead of charging the car, you draw power from its battery to run devices, for example during a blackout or on a trip. This guide covers the basics and the safety points that matter.

What V2L is

In plain terms, V2L supplies household-style AC power from the car's battery. It is usually accessed through an adapter connected to the charging port, which is why it belongs in a charging series. It is different from charging, where power flows into the car.

Which models advertise V2L

Launch coverage of the Atto 2 in the Philippines states that both the EV and the plug-in hybrid versions come with a V2L function to power devices during a blackout. Philippine press has also reported V2L on the Atto 3. Which models and variants have it, and what output they allow, should be confirmed on BYD Cars Philippines' official pages or in your owner manual. We have not confirmed a complete model list here.

Check the limits before you plug in

Do not guess how much your car can supply. Look up these items in your owner manual or ask an authorized BYD service center:

  • the maximum output of your model, in watts
  • whether the output is limited to the adapter's rating
  • the minimum battery level at which V2L stops
  • which adapter is approved for your car

Safety basics

These are general precautions, not model-specific instructions:

  • Stay within the rated load. Add up the wattage of everything you plan to run, and remember that some appliances draw a higher surge when they start.
  • Use a suitable adapter. Cheap, uncertified adapters are sold online, and their quality varies widely. Prefer the adapter supplied with your car or one approved by your dealer.
  • Keep everything dry and ventilated. Do not use V2L with wet connectors, damaged cables or in standing water.
  • Mind the battery. Powering devices uses the same battery you need to drive. Leave enough charge to get home or reach a charger.
  • Do not modify anything. Do not open the car's electrical system or make your own connections. High-voltage work belongs with qualified technicians.

What V2L is good for

Reasonable uses include powering a few small devices, lights or a fan during a blackout, or running tools or gadgets at a campsite. It is not a substitute for a fixed home backup system, and it should not run heavy loads for long periods without checking your manual.
